Information of Arundhati Gold Scheme

The Arundhati Gold Scheme is one of the most important welfare schemes of the Government of Assam.
- The scheme was launched on 1st January 2020.
- It is implemented and administered by the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Government of Assam.
- Many parts of the country continue to face social evils such as child marriage, female foeticide, and dowry.
- Although the dowry system is largely absent in Assam, it is still the desire of many parents to marry their daughters with dignity and adequate support.
- Giving gold during marriage has traditionally been considered auspicious.
- Parents believe that gifting gold at the time of marriage enhances the social and economic security of their daughters.
- However, due to poor financial conditions, many families are unable to fulfill this wish.
- Keeping the needs of such economically weaker families in mind, the Government of Assam launched the Arundhati Gold Scheme, also known as Arundhati Gold Achoni.
- Under the scheme, financial assistance of ₹40,000 is provided to brides to purchase gold for their marriage.
- To avail the benefit, the marriage must be mandatorily registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
- The minimum age of the bride should be 18 years and that of the groom should be 21 years.
- Applicants are not eligible if the annual family income exceeds ₹5,00,000.
- The marriage of the girl beneficiary must be held on or after 01-12-2019, and the marriage registration should be completed on or after 01-01-2020.
- Eligible beneficiaries can apply for financial assistance through the Arundhati Gold Scheme Online Application Form .

Arundhati Gold Scheme Benefits
The Government of Assam provides the following benefit to all eligible beneficiaries under the Arundhati Gold Scheme:
- Financial assistance of ₹40,000 is provided to purchase gold for marriage purposes.
Eligibility Requirements of Arundhati Gold Scheme
- The bride and bridegroom must be residents of Assam.
- The minimum age of the bride should be 18 years and that of the bridegroom should be 21 years.
- Both the bride and bridegroom should have passed at least HSLC or an equivalent examination.
Exception: No minimum educational qualification is required for beneficiaries belonging to Tea Tribes or Adivasi communities. - The annual family income of the bride should not exceed ₹5,00,000.
- The marriage must be registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
- The bride must apply for the Arundhati Gold Scheme on the same day as applying for marriage registration.
- The marriage should take place on or after 1st December 2019.
- The registration of marriage should be completed on or after 1st January 2020.

Social Community Details:
- Fill in the captcha correctly and submit the application form.
- After submission, an application number will be generated.
- The marriage officer will schedule an appointment and inform the applicant through SMS or email.

On the day of appointment, the applicant must submit the following
original documents along with a printout of the application
form (as applicable):
- HSLC / CBSE or equivalent pass certificate
- Birth certificate
- Medical examination certificate for proof of age
- Attested copy of marriage certificate under the Special Marriage Act, 1954
- Income certificate
- Copy of bank passbook
- First marriage certificate issued by Gaonburah / Mouzdar of the village
- After submission to the Marriage Officer, the application will be thoroughly scrutinized.
- The applicant will be informed about acceptance or rejection of the application through SMS or email.
- Upon approval, the financial assistance for gold will be credited directly to the bride’s bank account.

- HSLC / CBSE or equivalent examination pass certificate

- Medical certificate for proof of age issued by a competent authority (only in case of non-availability of birth certificate)
- For Non-SC/ST and Non–Tea Tribe/Adivasi communities:
- HSLC / CBSE or equivalent examination pass certificate
- For Tea Tribe and Adivasi communities:
- Birth certificate of both bride and groom, OR
- Any educational certificate, OR
- Medical certificate issued by a competent authority
- For SC/ST communities:
Key Features of Arundhati Gold Scheme
- The applicant bride can avail the benefit of the Arundhati Gold Scheme only for her first marriage.
- To avail the benefit, both the bride and the groom must have passed HSLC / CBSE or an equivalent examination.
- However, if the bride and groom belong to the Tea Tribe or Adivasi communities, no educational qualification is required.
- At the time of launch, the financial assistance under the scheme was ₹30,000.
- In view of rising gold prices, the Government of Assam increased the assistance amount to ₹40,000.
- The financial assistance provided under the scheme must be used only for purchasing gold and not for any other purpose.
- The Inspector General of Registration is the nodal officer for implementing the scheme at the State level.
- The Sub-Registrar is the nodal officer for implementation at the district level.
- The application must be accepted or rejected within one week from the date of submission.
- Upon acceptance of the application, the Inspector General of Registration is responsible for transferring the assistance amount to the applicant’s bank account.
- In case of any grievance, the District Registrar acts as the Appellate Authority.
